The Fine Print Report
Heavy fine print. The perks are valuable, but most of the advertised value depends on spending thresholds, eligibility rules and travel habits.
100k bonus needs $24,000 in spendImpact level: High
The full 100,000-point bonus needs $24,000 of spending, and the last 50,000 points only arrive after the first year
The offer pays 20,000 points on the first purchase, 30,000 after $12,000 in net purchases within 180 days, and a one-time 50,000-point anniversary bonus only if the account stays open 12 months and $24,000 in net purchases are made within 365 days. Unlike TD's other Aeroplan cards, this offer has no first-year annual fee rebate.
Why it matters: Half of the advertised points depend on spending $2,000 a month for a year and keeping a $599 card past its first anniversary. Below $12,000 in six months, the bonus is 20,000 points.
Bonus can be refused if you had one beforeImpact level: High
Aeroplan can refuse or take back the bonus if you've had a welcome bonus on a similar Aeroplan card from any bank
Approval for the card doesn't guarantee the points. Under the Aeroplan program terms, bonus points may not be issued, and may be revoked, if you previously received welcome or other incentive points for opening a new Aeroplan credit card of the same category with TD or another issuer. The offer also excludes anyone who opened any TD Aeroplan Visa account in the last 12 months.
Why it matters: If you've held a premium Aeroplan card from TD, CIBC or another issuer and received its bonus, you may pay the $599 fee and get no bonus.
Medical cover drops to 4 days at 65+Impact level: High
Travel medical covers 31 days if you're under 65, but only the first 4 days if you're 65 or older
Emergency travel medical insurance covers up to $5 million for the first 31 days of a trip for insured persons 64 or under. For anyone 65 or older, only the first 4 days are covered. Pre-existing conditions must be stable for 90 days before departure (180 days if 65+).
Why it matters: A cardholder aged 65 or older needs separate travel medical insurance for any trip longer than 4 days, despite holding TD's top travel card.
Free lounge guest only promised to end-2026Impact level: Medium
Maple Leaf Lounge guest access is only promised through December 31, 2026, and covers Canada and the U.S. only
Cardholders get Maple Leaf Lounge and Air Canada Café access in Canada and the U.S. with a same-day Air Canada or Star Alliance departure. Each cardholder may bring one guest free "through December 31, 2026"; other guests pay a fee. Access excludes Air Canada Signature Suites and lounges run by other airlines, including Star Alliance lounges abroad.
Why it matters: The free guest is part of the card's advertised value, but it's dated. Lounge access outside North America comes only from the 6 Visa Airport Companion visits.
Companion pass needs $25,000/yr spendImpact level: Medium
The companion pass requires $25,000 in spending a year, covers economy only, and taxes and fees are extra
One Worldwide Companion Pass is issued after more than $25,000 in net purchases in the 12 months before your card renewal date, and can take up to 10 weeks to arrive. It covers the companion's base fare ($99 within North America, up to $599 to Asia and Oceania) on a published economy fare; the companion pays all taxes, fees and surcharges. It can't be used with premium cabins, Aeroplan flight rewards or sale codes, and expires after 12 months.
Why it matters: On long-haul routes the taxes and surcharges the companion still pays can be several hundred dollars, and the pass is only earned by spending $25,000 a year.

6 lounge visits a year, shared with guestsImpact level: Medium
The 6 worldwide lounge visits are shared with your guests; extra visits cost $32 USD per person
The Visa Airport Companion Program gives each enrolled cardholder 6 complimentary visits per membership year. Visits used for accompanying guests come out of the same 6. Each visit after that costs $32 USD per person and is billed to the card.
Why it matters: A couple travelling together uses 2 visits per lounge stop, so the 6 visits cover three trips' worth of lounge stops.
2.5% FX fee, charged again on refundsImpact level: Medium
2.5% foreign currency fee, charged again when a foreign purchase is refunded
Purchases in a foreign currency are converted by Visa and charged a 2.5% foreign currency conversion fee. If a foreign purchase is refunded, TD deducts another conversion fee from the refund and does not return the fee it charged on the original purchase.
Why it matters: A $500 USD hotel deposit that's refunded in full costs you about 5% of its value in fees (2.5% going out, 2.5% coming back), plus any exchange-rate movement in between.
2 late payments: higher rates for a yearImpact level: Medium
Two late payments in 12 months move you to higher interest rates for at least a year
If TD doesn't receive your minimum payment on time twice within 12 consecutive statement periods, it raises your interest rates to the higher rates in your Disclosure Statement. The higher rates start the next statement period and only end after 12 consecutive on-time minimum payments.
Why it matters: If you ever carry a balance, two late payments make it more expensive for at least 12 months. Automatic minimum payments avoid this.
Missed payment: TD can debit other accountsImpact level: Medium
After one missed payment, TD can take money from your other TD accounts without notice
If your full minimum payment isn't received by the due date, the account is no longer in Good Standing. TD may then deduct money from any other account the Primary Cardholder has with the TD Bank Group, with or without notifying you, and may demand the full balance.
Why it matters: If your chequing or savings account is also at TD, a single missed payment can lead to a withdrawal you didn't schedule, which could bounce other payments.
Bonus rates capped at $100,000/yrImpact level: Low
Bonus earn rates stop after $100,000 a year in bonus-category spending
The 1.5x and 2x bonus rates apply only up to $100,000 in combined annual purchases in the bonus categories, then those purchases earn the base 1.25 points per $1 for the rest of the year. Air Canada purchases only earn 2x when Air Canada is the merchant; flights bought through travel agencies earn the travel rate.
Why it matters: Few cardholders reach the cap, but large Air Canada bookings through a third party earn 1.5x rather than 2x.
Gambling and money orders = cash advancesImpact level: Low
Lottery tickets, betting, money orders and similar purchases are treated as cash advances
TD treats Cash-Like Transactions, such as casino chips, betting, lottery tickets, travellers cheques and money orders, as cash advances. Cash advances have no interest-free grace period and earn no Aeroplan points.
Why it matters: Interest starts the day of the purchase even if you pay your statement in full, and cash advance fees may apply.

The Verdict
The Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege is built for frequent Air Canada flyers: unlimited Maple Leaf Lounge access, priority airport services and a companion pass offer real value if you fly the airline often.
The conditions are significant. The welcome bonus is split across $24,000 of spending and a first anniversary, Aeroplan can refuse it if you've had a similar bonus elsewhere, the free lounge guest is only promised through 2026, and travel medical drops to 4 days at age 65.
The Recommendation: Worth it for frequent Air Canada flyers who spend $25,000 or more a year. If you fly Air Canada a few times a year, the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite keeps the free checked bag for $139.
