Rates: Membership Rewards Terms 50500074 (10/26), Appendix 2 — Redemption Rates by Reward. The CardTruth estimate is our own valuation, not a rate stated in the terms. It assumes the redemption described above; most other options return less. Ranges marked est. are CardTruth estimates, from a conservative redemption to a typical one.
The Fine Print Report
Moderate fine print. Only worthwhile at high quarterly spending.
No travel medical or trip cancellationImpact level: High
No emergency medical or trip cancellation insurance
The card's travel coverage is limited to flight and baggage delay, hotel burglary, lost baggage, travel accident and rental car coverage. There's no emergency medical, trip cancellation or trip interruption insurance.
Why it matters: Buy separate travel medical insurance for trips outside your province.
1x base; bonus needs $20,000 a quarterImpact level: Medium
Only 1 point per dollar; the bonus needs $20,000 of spending in each calendar quarter
Everything earns 1 point per $1. The 10,000-point quarterly bonus only applies when $20,000 in net purchases posts by the last day of a calendar quarter; purchases posting after the quarter count toward the next one.
Why it matters: Below $80,000 a year in spending, this card earns 1x, less than most business cards.
30% on unpaid due-in-full chargesImpact level: Medium
Charges you don't pay in full become delinquent at 30%, and the flexible balance rises to 29.99% after missed payments
This charge card has a Due in Full balance and a Flexible Payment Option balance. Due in Full charges must be paid each month, and a 30% annual rate applies to each delinquent one. The Flexible Payment Option balance is charged 21.99%, rising to 25.99% after 2 Missed Payments and 29.99% after 3 or more in 12 months.
Why it matters: Know which charges must be paid in full before relying on the flexible balance.
30,000 points need $30,000 in a yearImpact level: Medium
30,000 of the 90,000 welcome points need $30,000 in purchases within 12 months
60,000 points need $7,500 in the first 3 months; the other 30,000 need total purchases of $30,000 by the 12-month anniversary. Current or former Business Gold Rewards Cardmembers can be approved without the bonus.
Why it matters: Returns that drop you below a threshold can reverse the points.
Cancel the card, lose all pointsImpact level: Medium
All Membership Rewards points are lost immediately if you cancel the card
Under the Membership Rewards terms, all points are lost immediately when you cancel your card, and when Amex cancels it. A late payment also removes the points earned in the previous month.
Why it matters: Redeem or transfer your points before closing the account.

2.5% FX fee, not refunded on returnsImpact level: Medium
2.5% foreign currency conversion commission, not refunded on returns
Charges in a foreign currency are converted by Amex's currency affiliate and a 2.5% conversion commission is added. The agreement sets the rate in the information box sent with the application rather than on the product page. The commission isn't returned when a foreign-currency purchase is refunded.
Why it matters: Spending $200 a month in U.S. dollars, on subscriptions for example, adds about $60 a year in conversion fees, and refunds of foreign purchases don't return the original commission.
Dell credit ends Dec 31, 2026Impact level: Low
The Dell credit ends December 31, 2026
The page advertises up to $100 a year in Dell credits ($50 every 6 months), but only until December 31, 2026. The Instacart credit runs until December 31, 2027.
Why it matters: Don't count the Dell credit in the card's long-term value.
