Rates: Membership Rewards Terms 50500074 (10/26), Appendix 2 — Redemption Rates by Reward. The CardTruth estimate is our own valuation, not a rate stated in the terms. It assumes the redemption described above; most other options return less. Ranges marked est. are CardTruth estimates, from a conservative redemption to a typical one.
The Fine Print Report
Moderate fine print. The value depends on using the credits and lounges.
6 lounge visits a year from 2027Impact level: High
From 2027, Priority Pass and Plaza Premium visits are limited to 6 a year unless you spend $20,000
Starting January 1, 2027, the Basic Cardmember gets 6 complimentary visits a year to Priority Pass lounges and 6 to Plaza Premium lounges (2 each for supplementary Platinum cards; none for supplementary Gold cards); guests use up visits. Unlimited visits return only after $20,000 in eligible spending in a calendar year. Other Global Lounge Collection lounges stay unlimited.
Why it matters: Frequent travellers who don't reach $20,000 a year will pay for visits after the sixth.
Medical: 64 or under, first 15 daysImpact level: High
Emergency medical insurance covers only travellers 64 or under, for the first 15 days of a trip
The $5,000,000 emergency medical coverage applies for a 15-day period including the days you leave and return, and only if the insured person is 64 or under. Conditions that weren't stable in the 90 days before departure are excluded.
Why it matters: Travellers 65 or older, or on trips longer than 15 days, need separate travel medical insurance.
30% on unpaid due-in-full chargesImpact level: Medium
Charges you don't pay in full become delinquent at 30%, and the flexible balance rises to 29.99% after missed payments
This charge card has a Due in Full balance and a Flexible Payment Option balance. Due in Full charges must be paid each month, and a 30% annual rate applies to each delinquent one. The Flexible Payment Option balance is charged 21.99%, rising to 25.99% after 2 Missed Payments and 29.99% after 3 or more in 12 months.
Why it matters: Know which charges must be paid in full before relying on the flexible balance.
Bonus: $15,000 in 3 months, then month 15Impact level: Medium
The 150,000 points need $15,000 in 3 months and keeping the card into month 15, and exclude all past Amex small business cardmembers
100,000 points need $15,000 in net purchases in the first 3 months; the other 50,000 need a purchase between months 15 and 17, after a second $799 annual fee. Anyone who has held any American Express Small Business card can be approved without the bonus.
Why it matters: The full offer costs two annual fees ($1,598) and $15,000 of spending in 3 months.
$200 credit: one Amex Travel bookingImpact level: Medium
The $200 travel credit only works on a single $200+ booking through American Express Travel
The credit is redeemed at the time of booking through American Express Travel Online or Platinum Card Travel Service, once per card anniversary year, on a single travel booking of $200 or more charged to the card.
Why it matters: Bookings made directly with airlines or hotels don't qualify.

1.25x flat; no bonus categoriesImpact level: Medium
1.25x on everything, with no bonus categories
Every purchase earns 1.25 Membership Rewards points per $1; there are no higher rates for travel, dining or business categories.
Why it matters: At $799 a year, the earn rate alone doesn't cover the fee; the value depends on using the credits and travel benefits.
Cancel the card, lose all pointsImpact level: Medium
All Membership Rewards points are lost immediately if you cancel the card
Under the Membership Rewards terms, all points are lost immediately when you cancel your card, and when Amex cancels it. A late payment also removes the points earned in the previous month.
Why it matters: Redeem or transfer your points before closing the account.
2.5% FX commission, not refundedImpact level: Medium
2.5% foreign currency conversion commission, not refunded on returns
Charges in a foreign currency are converted by Amex's currency affiliate with a 2.5% conversion commission. The commission isn't returned when a foreign purchase is refunded, and the refund may convert at a different rate.
Why it matters: Every $1,000 spent in a foreign currency costs about $25, and a returned purchase doesn't get it back.
Credits need enrolment and set merchantsImpact level: Low
The $620 in business credits need enrolment and spending with specific merchants
The Dell credit is up to $200 a year, Indeed is up to $75 per 3-month period, and the wireless credit is $10 a month for at least $10 spent with an eligible national carrier, after a one-time enrolment. Purchases through resellers or third parties and by supplementary cards don't count.
Why it matters: Only count credits you'd use anyway.

The Verdict
The Business Platinum earns 1.25x on everything, includes broad lounge access, a $200 travel credit, business statement credits and full travel insurance.
At $799 a year, lounge visits are capped from 2027 unless you spend $20,000, and the welcome bonus needs $15,000 in 3 months plus a second annual fee.
The Recommendation: For businesses that travel and spend heavily; lighter spenders get more from a cheaper card.
