The Fine Print Report
Minimal fine print. A plain, low-cost card; the liability terms are the main point to check.
Owners personally liable for the balanceImpact level: Medium
Unless the account is set up with corporate liability, every owner is personally liable for the whole balance
RBC offers this card under two agreements. Under the joint and several liability agreement, the business and each owner are liable for all debt on the account, however it was incurred. Under the corporate liability agreement, only the business is liable. RBC can also apply money any owner has on deposit with it against the debt without notice.
Why it matters: Ask which agreement your account uses. If it's joint and several, RBC can collect from you and take money from your personal RBC accounts.
2.5% FX mark-upImpact level: Medium
2.5% foreign currency mark-up
Foreign currency transactions are charged at 2.5% over the benchmark exchange rate.
Why it matters: Foreign software, advertising and travel cost 2.5% more.
Miss a full payment: interest from day 1Impact level: Low
Miss paying in full once and all purchases bear interest from the day you make them
If you don't pay the new balance in full by the due date, you lose interest-free status: interest is charged on that statement's purchases and on all new purchases from their transaction dates until you pay in full by a due date again. Cash advances never have a grace period.
Why it matters: Carrying a balance once costs interest on new purchases too, until you pay in full again.
Cash advance: $3.50–$5 fee + interestImpact level: Low
Cash advances and non-pre-authorized bill payments cost $3.50 to $5 each, plus interest from day one
A $3.50 fee applies to each cash withdrawal in Canada, each bill payment from the card that isn't a pre-authorized charge set up with the merchant, and each transfer to another RBC account; $5.00 outside Canada. Cash advances bear interest from the transaction date.
Why it matters: Paying a supplier's bill through online banking with this card counts as a cash advance, not a purchase.
$29 over-limit feeImpact level: Low
$29 fee each statement period the balance is over the limit
A $29 fee is charged on the day the balance exceeds the account or card credit limit, and again on the first day of each statement period it stays over, at most once a period.
Why it matters: Several employee cards share one account limit, so spending can push it over.
Who This Card Is For

- Need several low-cost employee cards
- Don't care about rewards
Consider alternatives if you...

The Verdict
The RBC Visa Business is a no-rewards business card for $12 a year per card, with purchase security and extended warranty insurance and RBC's online account tools.
The fine print is short: owners are personally liable unless the account uses RBC's corporate liability agreement, missing a full payment ends interest-free status, and paying bills from the card in online banking counts as a cash advance.
The Recommendation: Best for small businesses that just need cheap cards to keep business spending separate. If you pay in full every month, a no-fee business cash back card earns something on the same spending.
