Points & Redemption
Rates: BMO VIPorter World Elite Mastercard product page, footnote ^^ (retrieved 2026-10-18). The CardTruth estimate is our own valuation, not a rate stated in the terms. The program states no fixed cash value, so what a point is worth depends on how you redeem it.
The Fine Print Report
Moderate fine print. A first-year voucher card for Porter flyers.
Yearly 35% voucher needs $25,000 spendImpact level: High
"35% off one flight booking per year" requires $25,000 of spending each year
Apart from the one-time voucher for spending $6,000 in your first 180 days, the annual voucher is only issued when you spend $25,000 within a card year; the count resets on each anniversary. The discount applies to the base fare only, on PorterClassic seats on Porter-operated flights, and the voucher is cancelled if you close or change the card.
Why it matters: Most cardholders will get the voucher once. Keeping it each year takes about $2,100 a month of spending.
Medical: 8 days, none at 65+Impact level: High
Travel medical covers only 8 days, and nobody 65 or older
Emergency travel medical covers up to $5,000,000 per person for the first 8 days of a trip, but only if everyone covered is 64 or younger on the departure date. Conditions that weren't stable in the 90 days before departure aren't covered.
Why it matters: Anyone 65 or older, and anyone away longer than 8 days, needs separate travel medical insurance.
Base 0.5 pts; bonus limits $3,000–$10,000Impact level: Medium
Most purchases earn 0.5 points per dollar, and bonus categories have low annual limits
Everything outside the bonus categories earns 0.5 points per dollar. Porter purchases earn 2 points on the first $10,000 a year; gas and transportation 1 point on $3,000; groceries and dining together 1 point on $5,000; hotels 1 point on $3,000.
Why it matters: At BMO's own 1.5-cent average, everyday spending returns about 0.75%.
Perks only on Porter-operated itinerariesImpact level: Medium
Flight perks only apply on itineraries operated entirely by Porter
Boarding, check-in and re-accommodation benefits are only valid on itineraries wholly operated by Porter and booked with your linked VIPorter number. They end immediately when the card is closed or changed.
Why it matters: On codeshare or partner flights, the card's perks don't apply.
2.5% FX fee; refunds credited at a lower rateImpact level: Medium
Foreign currency purchases cost 2.5% extra, and refunds come back at a lower rate
Purchases in a foreign currency are converted at the network's rate plus 2.50%. Refunds are converted at the network's rate minus 2.50% on the day the refund posts, and BMO's agreement says the credit will in most cases be less than the original charge.
Why it matters: Every $1,000 spent in a foreign currency costs about $25 in fees, and a returned foreign purchase costs about the same again.

2 missed payments: 25.99% for a yearImpact level: Medium
Two missed payments in 12 months raise your rates to 25.99% and 28.99% for at least a year
If you miss your minimum payment and haven't paid it by the time the next statement is prepared, twice in any 12-month period, your rates rise to 25.99% on purchases and 28.99% on cash advances and balance transfers, for at least 12 months.
Why it matters: If you ever carry a balance, two late payments make it far more expensive. Automatic minimum payments avoid this.
Closure: BMO can take your depositsImpact level: Medium
BMO can close the account without notice, demand the full balance and take it from your BMO deposits
BMO may cancel your card or close the account at any time without telling you in advance. The total debt is then due immediately, and if you don't pay it, BMO may apply any money you have on deposit with it or its affiliates against the balance.
Why it matters: If your chequing or savings account is also at BMO, an unpaid balance can be taken from it directly.
No free checked bagImpact level: Low
No free checked bag, unlike the World Elite version
The checked bag, carry-on and seat selection benefits belong to the VIPorter World Elite card. This card's flight perks are early boarding, dedicated check-in and priority re-accommodation.
Why it matters: If you check bags on Porter, compare the $110 fee difference with the World Elite card's bag savings.

The Verdict
The VIPorter Mastercard's 35%-off voucher can cover a large share of a family's Porter booking in the first year, for an $89 fee that's waived in year one.
Keeping the voucher every year needs $25,000 of spending, everyday purchases earn 0.5 points per dollar, and the perks only apply on Porter's own flights.
The Recommendation: Good in year one for Porter flyers; reassess before the second annual fee.
