The Fine Print Report
Moderate fine print. Capped bonus categories over a low 0.5% base, and rewards paid only once a year.
2% ends at $15,000 per category; base 0.5%Impact level: Medium
Each 2% category stops at $15,000 a year, and everything else earns 0.5%
The 2% rates on gas and EV charging, transit, office supplies, and recurring bills and streaming each apply only to the first $15,000 a year in that category. After that, and on all other purchases, the card earns 0.5%. Purchases count only at merchants with the right category code.
Why it matters: Most business spending, like equipment, software or advertising, earns just 0.5%.
Paid once a year; lost if TD closes itImpact level: Medium
Cash back is paid only once a year, and is lost if TD closes the account
Cash Back Dollars are credited automatically once a year; the first period runs from your first purchase to the November billing cycle of the following year. If TD ends the agreement or closes the account for any reason, the balance can expire immediately. If you close it, the balance is applied to what you owe.
Why it matters: A new cardholder can wait up to about 23 months for the first payout.
You're personally liable for the balanceImpact level: Medium
The business, the person who applied and the cardholder are each liable for everything owed
The cardholder, the business and the individual borrower who requested the account are jointly and severally liable for all amounts owed. If you miss a minimum payment, TD can demand the full balance and, without notice, take money from any other account you hold with TD Bank Group.
Why it matters: If the business can't pay, TD can collect from you personally and from your personal TD accounts.
2.5% FX fee, refunds converted lowerImpact level: Medium
2.5% foreign currency fee, and refunds come back at a lower rate
Foreign currency purchases are converted at Visa's rate plus a fixed percentage, 2.5% on TD's Canadian dollar cards. Refunds are converted at Visa's rate minus the same percentage, so a refund is usually less than the original charge.
Why it matters: With 0.5% cash back on most purchases, foreign spending costs about 2% net.
2 late payments: higher rateImpact level: Medium
Two late minimum payments in 12 statements raise your rate until you make six on time
If TD doesn't receive the minimum payment on time twice within 12 consecutive statement periods, the rates rise to the higher rates in your Disclosure Statement until you make six consecutive minimum payments on time. Since July 2, 2026, unpaid interest is also added to the balance and charged interest.
Why it matters: A business that sometimes carries a balance pays more after two late payments. Automatic minimum payments avoid this.

No travel insuranceImpact level: Low
Only purchase protection; no travel or rental car insurance
The card includes purchase security and extended warranty for items paid in full with the card, but no travel medical, trip, rental car or phone insurance.
Why it matters: Business travel booked on this card isn't insured.
Who This Card Is For
Great fit if you...
- Spend on gas, transit and office supplies
- Pay recurring business bills by card
- Want no annual fee for employee cards
Consider alternatives if you...
- Spend mostly outside the 2% categories
- Want cash back more than once a year
- Need travel insurance
- Don't want personal liability
The Verdict
The TD Business Cash Back Visa is a no-fee business card paying 2% on gas, EV charging, transit, office supplies, recurring bills and streaming, each on the first $15,000 a year, and 0.5% on everything else.
The fine print narrows it: the base rate is only 0.5%, cash back is paid once a year and can be lost if TD closes the account, there's no travel insurance, and the business, the applicant and the cardholder are all personally liable.
The Recommendation: Best for small businesses whose spending is mostly gas, transit, office supplies and recurring bills. If your spending is spread across many categories, a flat 1% card earns more.
