The Fine Print Report
Moderate fine print. The earn rates are generous and uncapped, but status, point ownership and liability all carry conditions.
All points go to the primary cardholderImpact level: Medium
All employees' points go to the primary cardholder's personal WestJet account, whoever that is
Every WestJet point earned on the account, by all cardholders, is awarded only to the primary business cardholder, whether that person is an owner, a signing authority or an employee. Silver status is also only for that person.
Why it matters: If the primary cardholder is an employee who later leaves, the points and status built on company spending go with them.
Silver after year 1 needs $30,000 a yearImpact level: Medium
Silver status after the first year needs $30,000 a calendar year, counted by December statement
The free Silver status lasts until December 31 of the year after approval. To keep it, the account needs $30,000 in eligible purchases in each calendar year, counted only up to the December statement date, so late-December purchases can fall into the next year. The 6-point flight rate depends on having Silver.
Why it matters: Below $30,000 a year, you lose the free bags, lounge passes and the extra 3 points on flights.
3x only when booked directly with WestJetImpact level: Medium
The WestJet rate applies only when WestJet is the merchant on your statement
The extra points on flights and vacations are paid only if WestJet, WestJet Vacations or Sunwing Vacations appears as the merchant. Bookings through a travel agency or third-party site may earn only 1.5 points. Telecom, electronics and shipping earn 3 points only at merchants coded with one of the listed category codes.
Why it matters: Book directly with WestJet, and expect some phone or electronics purchases to earn only 1.5.
Bonus counts only the owner's own spendingImpact level: Medium
Most of the welcome bonus needs $15,000 of the owner's own spending in 6 months
45,000 points come with a first purchase in the first 3 months. The other 45,000 spending-based points need $5,000 in 3 months and $15,000 in 6, counting only the primary owner's own purchases by posting date. The last 10,000 arrive after the first anniversary, once the second annual fee has been charged.
Why it matters: Employee card spending doesn't count, and the full 100,000 means paying the $175 fee twice.
Owners personally liable for the balanceImpact level: Medium
Unless the account is set up with corporate liability, every owner is personally liable for the whole balance
RBC offers this card under two agreements. Under the joint and several liability agreement, the business and each owner are liable for all debt on the account, however it was incurred. Under the corporate liability agreement, only the business is liable. RBC can also apply money any owner has on deposit with it against the debt without notice.
Why it matters: Ask which agreement your account uses. If it's joint and several, RBC can collect from you and take money from your personal RBC accounts.

2.5% FX mark-upImpact level: Medium
2.5% foreign currency mark-up
Foreign currency transactions are charged at 2.5% over the benchmark exchange rate.
Why it matters: Spending abroad earns 1.5 points but costs 2.5% extra.
Travel Pass lounge visits cost US$32Impact level: Low
Mastercard Travel Pass lounge visits cost US$32 per person
The card includes a Mastercard Travel Pass (DragonPass) membership, but every lounge visit for you and your guests costs US$32 per person (subject to change), charged to the card. Silver status's lounge passes are separate.
Why it matters: Outside the Silver passes, lounge access is a paid discount, charged in U.S. dollars.

The Verdict
The WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard for Business earns 3 WestJet points on WestJet, telecom, electronics and shipping and 1.5 on everything else with no cap, with instant Silver status and a full travel insurance package.
The fine print decides who benefits: all points and status go to the primary cardholder personally, Silver after year one needs $30,000 a year, the WestJet rate needs direct bookings, and owners are personally liable unless the account uses RBC's corporate agreement.
The Recommendation: Best for owners who fly WestJet, spend at least $30,000 a year on the card and will be the primary cardholder themselves. Businesses that fly several airlines get more flexibility from Avion points.
