The Fine Print Report

Fine Print Impact Score
3/5

Moderate fine print. The bonus rates share one annual spending limit, and the grace period and liability terms are stricter than on CIBC's personal cards.

6 Medium2 LowTap a finding for details
Fee rises to $200 on Jan 12, 2027Impact level: Medium

The annual fee rises to $200 and authorized users to $55 from January 12, 2027

CIBC has announced that the primary cardholder's annual fee goes from $180 to $200, and each authorized user's from $50 to $55, the next time your fee is charged on or after January 12, 2027. New Air Canada benefits arrive at the same time, including a 15% discount on eligible flight rewards and two $25 Air Canada flight credits a year. You can cancel without cost by April 12, 2027.

Why it matters: The welcome offer rebates the fee for 2 years, so the increase starts to cost you in year 3.

Grace period needs 2 full payments in a rowImpact level: Medium

Outside Quebec, the interest-free period needs two statements paid in full in a row

Outside Quebec, CIBC charges no interest on a statement's purchases only if you pay that statement in full and you also paid the previous statement in full. When interest is charged on a purchase, it runs from the transaction date.

Why it matters: One month of carrying a balance also costs interest on the next month's purchases, even if you then pay in full.

Ref: CIBC Business Credit Card Summary of Annual Interest Rates and Fees 13552-2026/10, Interest-Free Grace Period and Additional Disclosures
You're personally liable for the balanceImpact level: Medium

You and the business are both personally liable for everything on the account, including employees' cards

The primary cardholder and the business are jointly and individually liable to repay the whole balance, including authorized users' spending, without setoff or counterclaim.

Why it matters: If the business can't pay, CIBC can collect the full balance from you personally.

Ref: CIBC Business Cardholder Agreement (Personal Liability), effective August 1, 2026, s. 1(b)
Full bonus needs $40,000 in 12 monthsImpact level: Medium

The full welcome offer needs $40,000 in a year, and past Aeroplan business bonuses can disqualify you

Only 10,000 points come with your first purchase; 25,000 need $7,500 in the first 3 statement periods and 40,000 need $40,000 in the first 12. Under the Aeroplan program terms you may not get any bonus, even if approved, if you've previously received a welcome, additional or anniversary bonus on an Aeroplan card of the same category from any issuer.

Why it matters: A business spending less than about $3,300 a month gets under half the advertised points. Check your Aeroplan bonus history before applying.

Bonus earn ends after $80,000 of spendingImpact level: Medium

All bonus earn rates, including Air Canada, stop after $80,000 of total card spending a year

The 2-point Air Canada rate and the 1.5-point rates apply only to the first $80,000 in net annual purchases on the account, counting every cardholder at every merchant. After that, everything earns 1 point per $1, except Hyatt. Hotels, car rentals and partner products bought through aircanada.com don't earn the Air Canada rate.

Why it matters: A business that spends more than $80,000 a year earns the base rate on the rest.

2.5% FX fee, also charged on refundsImpact level: Medium

2.5% foreign currency fee, charged on refunds too

Foreign currency transactions are converted at the rate CIBC pays, plus a fee of 2.5% of the converted amount, on both debits and credits.

Why it matters: A refunded foreign purchase costs the fee twice, which matters on a travel card.

Ref: CIBC Business Credit Card Summary of Annual Interest Rates and Fees 13552-2026/10, Foreign Currency Conversion
Points lost if not in good standingImpact level: Low

Points and airline benefits depend on the account being in good standing

Aeroplan points are awarded only if the account is in good standing on each monthly statement date; otherwise that period's points are cancelled. The free bag and lounge passes also end if the account isn't in good standing or is closed.

Why it matters: A late payment can cost a month of points.

Ref: CIBC Aeroplan Visa Business Card product page, footnotes 3, 6 and 8 (retrieved 2026-11-01)
Lounge passes: $10,000 each, N. America onlyImpact level: Low

Lounge passes need $10,000 in spending each, arrive after the account year and work only in Canada and the U.S.

You earn 1 pass per $10,000 in purchases in an account year, up to 4, deposited 7 to 14 days after the account year ends. Each expires 12 months after issue and works only at Maple Leaf Lounges in Canada and the U.S., not international lounges.

Why it matters: A new cardholder waits more than a year for the first pass.

The Verdict

The CIBC Aeroplan Visa Business Card earns 2 Aeroplan points on Air Canada and 1.5 on travel, dining, phone and internet, with a free first checked bag for up to 9 travellers, lounge passes as you spend, and trip, delay and rental car insurance.

The fine print narrows it: every bonus rate stops after $80,000 of total spending a year, the full welcome offer needs $40,000 in 12 months, the fee rises to $200 in January 2027, and you're personally liable for the whole balance.

The Recommendation: Best for small businesses that fly Air Canada and spend under $80,000 a year, mostly on travel, dining and telecom. Businesses that spend more, or want the business, not you, to be liable, should look at the Aeroplan Visa Business Plus.
