The Fine Print Report

Fine Print Impact Score
3/5

Moderate fine print. The earn rates are capped by total spending, and the grace period and liability terms are stricter than on CIBC's personal cards.

5 Medium2 LowTap a finding for details
Grace period needs 2 full payments in a rowImpact level: Medium

Outside Quebec, the interest-free period needs two statements paid in full in a row

Outside Quebec, CIBC charges no interest on a statement's purchases only if you pay that statement in full and you also paid the previous statement in full. Quebec residents only need to pay the current statement in full. When interest is charged on a purchase, it runs from the transaction date.

Why it matters: One month of carrying a balance also costs interest on the next month's purchases, from the day you make them, even if you then pay in full.

Ref: CIBC Business Credit Card Summary of Annual Interest Rates and Fees 13552-2026/10, Interest-Free Grace Period and Additional Disclosures
You're personally liable for the balanceImpact level: Medium

You and the business are both personally liable for everything on the account, including employees' cards

The primary cardholder and the business are jointly and individually liable to repay the whole balance, including authorized users' spending, without setoff or counterclaim.

Why it matters: If the business can't pay, CIBC can collect the full balance from you personally.

Ref: CIBC Business Cardholder Agreement (Personal Liability), effective August 1, 2026, s. 1(b)
1.5x ends after $80,000 of total spendingImpact level: Medium

The 1.5-point rate stops after $80,000 of total card spending a year

The 1.5-point rate on travel, gas, EV charging and transportation applies only to the first $80,000 in net annual purchases on the account, counting all cardholders' purchases at every type of merchant. After that, those categories earn 1 point per $1. The limit resets after the December statement.

Why it matters: A business spending heavily on other things can use up the $80,000 before it spends much in the bonus categories.

Ref: CIBC Aventura Visa Card for Business product page, footnote 5 (retrieved 2026-11-01)
50,000 of the bonus needs $40,000 spendImpact level: Medium

Most of the welcome offer needs $40,000 in spending, and past Aventura cardholders are excluded

Only 20,000 points come with your first purchase. The other 50,000 need $40,000 in net purchases posted in the first 12 monthly statement periods. You don't qualify if you opened, transferred or cancelled another Aventura card in the last 12 months, and transfers from another CIBC card are excluded.

Why it matters: A business spending less than about $3,300 a month gets less than a third of the advertised points.

2.5% FX fee, also charged on refundsImpact level: Medium

2.5% foreign currency fee, charged on refunds too

Foreign currency transactions are converted at the rate CIBC pays, plus a fee of 2.5% of the converted amount, on both debits and credits.

Why it matters: A refunded foreign purchase costs the fee twice, which matters on a travel card.

Show 2 more findingsShow fewer
Points lost if not in good standingImpact level: Low

Points can be cancelled in a month the account isn't in good standing, and 60 days after you close it

Points earned in a monthly statement period may not be credited, and are cancelled, if the account isn't in good standing that month. Unredeemed points are cancelled 60 days after you voluntarily close the account.

Why it matters: A missed payment can cost that month's points. Redeem before closing the card.

Ref: CIBC Aventura Visa Card for Business product page, footnotes 6 and 7 (retrieved 2026-11-01)
Flight chart: fare caps, 80% points minimumImpact level: Low

Airline chart flights have a maximum base fare, and you need at least 80% of the points

Flights on the Aventura Airline Rewards Chart cover a base fare only up to the chart's maximum for each zone. If you have at least 80% of the points needed, the rest can be charged to the card; on a refund, that charged amount comes back as points, not money.

Why it matters: Point values depend on finding fares close to each zone's maximum.

The Verdict

The CIBC Aventura Visa for Business is a mid-fee business travel card that earns 1.5 points on travel, gas and transportation and 2 points on Rewards Centre travel, with trip cancellation, delay and rental car insurance but no travel medical cover.

The fine print narrows it: the 1.5-point rate ends after $80,000 of total spending a year, most of the welcome offer needs $40,000 in a year, outside Quebec the grace period needs two full payments in a row, and you're personally liable for the whole balance.

The Recommendation: Best for small businesses spending under $80,000 a year, mostly on travel, gas and transport, that want flexible points they can pool with a personal Aventura card. Businesses that fly Air Canada most may get more from the Aeroplan business card.
