What the Card Offers

Not accepted: Costco Gas don't take Visa.
The Fine Print Report
Moderate fine print. The liability terms favour the owner, but the insurance is narrower than on the standard business card and the earn rates are capped by total spending.
Trip cover: business trips, cardholder onlyImpact level: High
Trip insurance covers only business trips, and only the cardholder
Trip cancellation and interruption insurance excludes any trip not booked or taken for business purposes, and covers only the cardholder named on the card, up to $1,000 per trip for cancellation and $2,000 for interruption. Flight delay and baggage cover is up to $500 per occurrence. The standard Aventura business card covers each insured person instead.
Why it matters: A holiday booked on this card, or family travelling with you, isn't protected.
Purchase security: $1,000 per lossImpact level: Medium
Purchase protection pays at most $1,000 per loss
Purchase security pays up to $1,000 per insured person per loss, even if several items are involved. Extended protection pays up to $10,000 per item and $25,000 per insured person a year.
Why it matters: A stolen laptop or piece of equipment worth more than $1,000 is only partly covered in its first 90 days.
Grace period needs 2 full payments in a rowImpact level: Medium
If the head office isn't in Quebec, the interest-free period needs two statements paid in full in a row
CIBC charges no interest on a statement's purchases only if the business pays that statement in full and also paid the previous statement in full, unless the business's head office is in Quebec. When interest is charged on a purchase, it runs from the transaction date.
Why it matters: One month of carrying a balance also costs interest on the next month's purchases, from the day they're made.
1.5x ends after $80,000 of total spendingImpact level: Medium
The 1.5-point rate stops after $80,000 of total card spending a year
The 1.5-point rate on travel, gas, EV charging and transportation applies only to the first $80,000 in net annual purchases on the account, counting all cardholders' purchases at every type of merchant. After that, those categories earn 1 point per $1.
Why it matters: With up to 16 cards on one account, a business can reach $80,000 quickly; after that the card earns 1 point per $1.
50,000 of the bonus needs $40,000 spendImpact level: Medium
Most of the welcome offer needs $40,000 in spending, and past Aventura cardholders are excluded
Only 20,000 points come with the first purchase. The other 50,000 need $40,000 in net purchases in the first 12 monthly statement periods. You don't qualify if you opened, transferred or cancelled another Aventura card in the last 12 months.
Why it matters: A business spending less than about $3,300 a month gets less than a third of the advertised points.

2.5% FX fee, also charged on refundsImpact level: Medium
2.5% foreign currency fee, charged on refunds too
Foreign currency transactions are converted at the rate CIBC pays, plus a fee of 2.5% of the converted amount, on both debits and credits. A refund can come back as less than the original charge.
Why it matters: A refunded foreign purchase costs the fee twice, which matters on a travel card.
Only the Rewards Officer can redeemImpact level: Low
Only the Rewards Officer can redeem, and points are cancelled 60 days after the account closes
The business names one Rewards Officer, who alone can use points to pay the balance or for financial products. If the officer leaves, the points move to the new officer the business appoints. Unredeemed points are cancelled 60 days after the account is voluntarily closed.
Why it matters: Keep the Rewards Officer up to date, and redeem before closing the account.

The Verdict
The CIBC Aventura Visa for Business Plus earns the same Aventura Points as CIBC's standard business Aventura card, but the business alone is liable, credit is based on the business, and it supports up to 16 cards with spending controls and a $50,000 employee misuse waiver.
The trade-off is in the insurance: trip cover applies only to business trips and the cardholder, purchase protection pays at most $1,000 per loss, and the 1.5-point rate still stops after $80,000 of total spending a year.
The Recommendation: Best for established businesses with several employees who travel for work and want the company, not the owner, on the hook. Sole owners who want family travel insured may prefer the standard Aventura Visa for Business.
